Get rid of Questions - User experience Practices

When you're creating a site or an application, your job is to get rid of question marks ????

-Because questions make you think.

We all live in a world where time is of the highest value. Users tend to visit your site or application while
  • Looking for something specific
  • Perform some task or
  • Browse across
You and me are also an user for someone. Practically, we all feel happy when we find what we are looking for with ease

Definition of 'ease' in a user's context: When the user don't have to THINK

How do you help your Users?
  • Decrease their visual affordance : Help users by giving them visual cues
Which of the following is an action button?

  • Decrease stress: Today, Human memory is expensive. Computer memory is almost free.
    • Auto-fill datas as much as possible
    • Give possible recommendations
    • Give feedback: Help users to know whether they are on the right track

    • Provide proper labeling for Menus
How would you navigate to the Life Insurance section in this menu?

    • Provide proper navigation : People won't use your Web site if they can't find their way around it.
Ex: Breadcrumbs

  • Use conventions: Conventions are your friend.
Enough people are now familiar with the convention of using a  metaphorical shopping cart on e-commerce sites that it's safe for designers to use a shopping cart icon without labeling it "Shopping cart".

Sometimes time spent reinventing the wheel results in a revolutionary new rolling device. But sometimes it just amounts to time spent reinventing the wheel

By following these few tips while designing your site/application, your Users are less prone to Questions which make them Think.

There are more tips to keep in mind while designing your site/ application. Will keep blogging it.

Happy Designing!
